Principal’s Newsletter January, 2025

Jan 15, 2025

Dear Students and Parents/Caregivers,

All of us at RSS hope everyone had a fun and relaxing holiday season and want to wish the RSS school community a great 2025!

We have entered the new year at a run—there’s only three weeks left in first semester!  Classes are looking to finish their last units of study and wrap up courses.

We have a busy time in January as we have all of our basketball teams up and running.  I want to thank the athletes, coaches and parents for supporting school athletics.  If you have a minute, please show your appreciation to Jaime and Kelley in the office for all the administrative support they give athletics at RSS.  Kathy Hoshizaki is our Athletic Director and goes above and beyond ensuring that we have a fun and fulfilling athletic program at RSS.

Here’s some events and happenings to keep in mind for January:

·      Parent/Caregiver Series, “Understanding Teen Sexual Health” 6:30-8:00 in the RSS Library and online (see email from this week).

·      Grade 8s will complete the MDI survey January 15th. An email was sent in December with information.

·      RSS Drama Performances January 15th and 16th 7:00PM in the RSS Theater.  Tickets are on sale in the RSS office.

·      Final Project/Exam Week January 20th-24th (special block rotation).  Please check the RSS calendar (https://revelstokesecondary.sd19.bc.ca/) for the block rotation.

·      Project Completion Day January 27th. This day is set aside for students who need to complete first semester work.

·      RSS PAC Meeting at 6:30 in the RSS Library January 27th.

·      First day of Semester 2 is January 28th. New courses will begin—we can print schedules if necessary.

RSS will again be hosting students from our sister city of Ono, Japan.  This is a fantastic cultural exchange program for our students. We are looking for host families to billet 2-3 students for their 4 nights in Revelstoke (arrive in Revelstoke Jan 31-depart from Revelstoke Feb 4).  This is a wonderful experience for the host families, and for the Japanese students.  There is host compensation for these students. Interested? Please contact Wendy at 250-837-8670 or wrota@sd19.bc.ca (www.mlihomestay.com)
