Youth Work in Trades program
The Work in Trades program is an educational program, jointly supported by the Ministry of Education and Child Care and SkilledTradesBC. The program allows students to begin apprenticeship training by working with a recognized trade sponsor in conjunction with their secondary school education. Students not only earn up to 16 high school credits on their transcript but also up to 480 paid work-based hours towards their apprenticeship. Students that complete the program may be eligible for the Youth Work in Trades Award of $1000 that is put towards furthering their apprenticeship with technical training at a recognized post-secondary institution.

Work Experience course
The intention of WEX is to provide students the opportunity to participate, observe, and learn about an occupation or career of interest to them. Through 100 hours of time in the workplace, students will develop skills for future employment, establish contacts in their field of interest, and further develop their career goals. WEX is typically built into a student’s school schedule and follows the regular block rotation with WEX worksite visits occurring once each week for half a day over the course of both semesters.
