The Scholarship Letter:

Note: Start by writing ONE letter. The only thing you need to change is whom the letter is being sent to before printing off your copies. Feel free to change individual letters a bit if you need to give specific details.

Guidelines:

A good letter of application takes a great deal of time, effort, thought, and revision. Here are some guidelines to help you:

  • Make sure the letter is neat, accurate, and legible. You must type your letter. Do not put individual letters in envelopes as we will forward them for you.
  • We suggest using a ‘Full-Block’ letter style (see details below).
  • Use 8.5 x 11 inch plain paper
  • Write your letter and then have family, teachers, or friends proofread it.

Here is a list of things that we strongly suggest you include in your letter:

  1. If applicable, the name of the specific scholarship for which you are applying
  2. Your identity and relevant personal information (including relevant affiliations)
  3. A statement explaining why you are pursuing post-secondary education and describing what you are planning to take
  4. Your academic standing
  5. Briefly highlight the key interests, hobbies, achievements, and activities you described in your application form. Do not just repeat the work you did on the form; rather highlight the activities that are especially important to you.
